Up and Down... - $3110.92

Haven't posted for a few days but I haven't had a ton of time to play. This sunday I took a few shots at $100 tournaments which really didn't end up turning out that well. I went out about 50 from the bubble in the 100k, I was shortstacked the whole time and just couldn't get anything going. Overall I had a pretty crappy Sunday actually, at one point I had amassed a pretty nice stack in a 10k Guaranteed tournament on Bodog only to lose, AA to 44, KK to 77, and AK to AQ all the the same guy, it was sick! I didn't play again untill Tuesday and again I didn't have a great session, I started up around 6 or 7 tournaments and I only ended up cashing in the $50 50k on Stars. I worked my stack up to around 45k before losing around 10k with AK to K7, a few hands later I got dealt QQ and managed to lose another 20k to some guy with KQ (both aipf). I was down to around 15k at this point and forced to make a pot odds call with Q9 for about 4k (was in the BB) ironically I ended up losing to K7 again when the board blanked. Finally I managed to double up with AQ vs A9 only to resteal with JTs against some guy who just happened to have AA. It was a dissapointing ending considering I had been in the top 10 for quite awhile and thought I had a great shot to go deep. Anyway down about $700 in two sessions so looking to make something happen next time I get a chance to play!

From everything I've been reading bankroll management seems to be the most important aspect in successfully building a roll. Considering this I'm going to be following some stricter guidelines from now on to ensure that I don't go broke. These are the guidelines Chris Ferguson laid out in his $0-$10k build and I'll be using them as well. For SNGs/Cash never buy in for more than 5% of my total bankroll ($155). For MTTs freezouts never buy in for more than 2% ($62). For MTT rebuys never buy in for more than .05% ($15). I'm adding the rebuy rule as I think there is an important distinction between freezeouts and rebuys (obviously I don't want to be playing the 55r even though the 2% rule would allow it) I chose .05% because I'm generally pretty conservative in the rebuys that I do play.

$3r 4th Place! - $3837.43

As the title says managed to take 4th place in this afternoons rebuy which was good for a cash of 1570.13! I got to the final table 1st in chips but I just couldn't get anything going, when the deck cooperated the players didn't, and when the players cooperated the deck didn't if you know what I mean. Anyway I still managed 4th place, the final hand I shoved about 1.2m with AQ and the chip leader called with KJ, J on the flop and I was off to the rail. This is my 2nd 4th place recently and while I'm not complaining it would definetely be nice to take one down soon its been awhile.

Update! - $2460.60

Haven't had a ton of time to play since my last update but I did squeeze a few tournaments in on the 6th. My best result was 34th in the $11r, I was up to almost 300k at one point but it was downhill from there. I ended up losing a race to a shortstack and was down to around 125k in the BB, UTG+1 min-raised and I called with my Jh5h hoping to take it away from him on the flop since his min-raise seemed weak. Flop came J 3 6 and I led out for about 3/4 pot figuring I had the best hand, he min-raised me back... at this point I really thought I was ahead (I really figured him for a PP somewhere in the 77-TT range) so I shoved. Turns out he had 33 and that was that. I placed in a few other tournaments but nothing worth writing about.

Going Up! - $2801.70

So I finally caught up with the little downsing I was on and managed a nice cash in the $20 1r1a on stars today. I ended up getting 4th when my KK ran into the luckbox chipleaders AQ and he promptly flopped the A, would have taken the lead but what can you do. Anyway... great to have a positive day and add a little padding to the roll.

So I guess it's worth it to actually start posting my stats now so here they are.

Crap! - $1657.20

So I hadn't been able to play for a few days and decided to go a little crazy on Saturday and see what happened. Well first off I officialy hate $12/180 turbos and won't be playing them anymore. Second playing outside your bankroll, running bad, and tilting is a sure fire formula for losing a good chunk of your bankroll. So moral of the story... stay within your roll, keep your composure, and don't play crapshoot turbos. Lesson learned...

1st Update - $2016.72

Not a great day but certainly could have been worse. Lost a few tournaments in unfortunate situations but thats just the way it goes. There was a few situations in the $3r that I feel I could have extracted some more chips but overall I feel I was playing well today.

  • $20/180 - AK to TT on a ATK flop.
  • $10/15k - A7 to K9 (Was around 10 BB pushed on the button when it was folded to me and SB called half his stack with K9... flop was 889, 6 on the turn gave me a little hope but the river blanked)
  • $15/Bounty - A9 to KQ AIPF.
  • $3r/25k - TT vs JJ AIPF.

Today/Overall:
Buy-ins - $58.80
Won - $48.34
Profit - ($10.46)

Current Bankroll - $2016.72

Ez Mode - $2027.18

So I didn't really get a chance to play tonight had a bunch of stuff to take care of. However, one of my errands did happen to take me to Giant Eagle (local grocery store) where I was able to pick up a few Gift Cards to load some more money on stars. Figured if I was going to take a shot at this I might as well get the best start possible.

The Beginning - $1526.01

A little about me, I'm a student at the University of Pittsburgh studying computer science. I work as a computer programmer for http://www.esportsea.com/. Poker has been a hobby of mine for a year or two now and I've had a couple of decent scores but nothing spectacular. This blog will be dedicated to all the details of my journey to become successful in the higher echelons of online tournament play. My starting bankroll as of now is $1526.01 and following (for the most part) proper bankroll management I'll be playing $20 mtts and below. My main goal by the end of the year is to increase my bankroll to around $6000 and be able to start playing some of the higher buy-in tournaments such as $50 freezeouts and the $10r. Anyway time to hit the tables, I'll be back later to update on how things go.

At the end of each post I'll include my current stats as follows:

Current Bankroll: $1526.01
Buy-ins: $0.00
Won/Lost: $0.00
